Jasper Hematite- or Brecciated Jasper (Jasper containing Hematite), is predominantly brick red, veined or patterned with Hematite that has a shiny gray contrast to the bright red of the Jasper. As a result, giving the stone a metallic luster. Jasper is commonly associated with interbedded hematite ore deposits of Precambrian age. It occurs as a petrifying agent in fossil wood and bone.
